The hardest thing about remote work is the lack of connection.
You quite literally spend your entire day behind a screen, communicating with your coworkers via Teams or Slack or text or whatever other method you might use.
I’m lucky enough that on the rare occasion, one of my authors will host an event and will graciously extend an invitation to one of those events. Last night was one of those nights.
I got to attend the launch of a book I worked on back in May (have I talked about hybrid publishing and super tight turnarounds yet? Maybe that’s a post…) called AWARE: The Power of Seeing Yourself Clearly by Les Csorba, and I also got to meet him in person after solely communicating via email for months (another rarity).
I also got to see my CEO and our director of author relations at the event which was another joy considering—again—I only ever see them via Zoom or Teams or chat with them over email!
I don’t love driving, but making the trip to Nashville is worth it for these treasured moments of connection when I can step out from behind a screen to see the people I spend months on end with, authors and coworkers alike.
It’s also so fun to hold the product of months of hard work in my hands and to see and hear the joy and pride in an author’s face as they talk about their work with so many people who have come to celebrate a monumental accomplishment such as writing a book.
It’s fun to share a glimpse into my professional life with you all, because it truly is something I am so deeply proud of! My publishing career is one I’ve poured so much blood, sweat, and tears into, and to see it come to life in moments like this is something I love sharing with others.
I’ve said before that publishing is an extremely challenging industry, but it’s also one that lends itself to incredibly rewarding moments because it’s one of the few industries where the results of your efforts are so visual—you get to actually see and hold the final product in your hands when all is said and done and I think that’s honestly amazing.
Anyways, a bit of a shorter post this week, but I thought it would be fun to offer a peek behind the curtain, especially because this is something I don’t get to do very often!
This post is such an amazing read!! I’m so happy you got to attend this amazing event!! ❤️
